Once Upon a Matress 
Once Upon a Mattress takes place in a fictional medieval kingdom ruled by the devious Queen Aggravain and the mute King Sextimus the Silent. The Minstrel and the Jester tell the audience the true tale of “The Princess and the Pea”. Prince Dauntless the Drab is eager to marry but for one reason or another, the overprotective Queen finds every prospective bride unsuitable. She insists that he marry a genuine princess and devises tests for them that are impossible to pass. The Queen’s marriage law states “Throughout the land no one may wed ‘til Dauntless to the altar’s lead”. Sir Harry, in love with Lady Larken, convinces the Queen to allow him to travel to the distant swamps in search of the princess. Three weeks later he returns with Winnifred the Woebegone, Princess of the Swamp and she is put to the Pea Under the Mattress Test.
